DIY Oil Catch Tank Kampung Style.

Another project which I have done to my car. A simple DIY job with basic tools and cheap fuel filter. This was to ensure that the throttle body stay clean longer from oil vapour sticking on the sidewall and sensor. Thus will provide accurate signal to the ECU.

The sensor inside the throttle body will give air fuel reading to the ECU. With time, the sensor can get dirty and covered by oil and it would not give accurate reading and causing problem. This can result to high fuel consumption or worst lower fuel consumption. This is because the sensor cannot detect the air volume going in hence the ECU will spray less fuel but the fact is that normal air mass is being sucked which will eventually lead to air fuel mixture to become lean. In the long run, it will harm engine health. This is because the engine that runs lean will run hotter than it should. Eventually it will contribute to wear and tear to the engine parts.

With oil catch tank, it helps to maintain the clean throttle body for longer time. By the way, I usually wipe the mouth of the throttle body using cloth.
The stuff that needed to do this Oil Catch Tank Kampung Style are:

1)     Buy Proton Wira fuel filter – MYR 5
2)     Buy 1 feet of fuel hose 8mm (will be cut into 2) – 1ft is around MYR 5

An aftermarket oil catch tank will cost around MYR 100 to MYR 500 depending on brand, size and model. However mine just cost around MYR 10. So this is a much cheaper alternative with the same purpose.
I bought myself a plastic fuel filter for carburetor engine.
Now the steps on how to install this. Locate the PCV hose. Originally the connection of the hose is from engine head to throttle body. However what I did was I modify it from engine head to OCT (in this case it is a fuel filter) then to throttle body.

To those who wonder what is PCV kindly browse thru below links:

I do it by replacing the hose that attach to the throttle body and insert the fuel hose to it and that fuel hose I connect to the above outlet of the fuel filter. The lower outlet of the fuel filter I connect to the engine head. I notice that the hose connecting to the engine head is actually bigger. What I did was I force the 8mm fuel hose to the original hose.
For extra safety t, you may use cable tie to secure each hose.

As you can see as per below picture:
The fuel hose I just push it in the original hose attach to the engine head.
The throttle body mouth.

The result…smoother driving and a cleaner throttle body longer… :)

After that when the fuel filter is full of oil or you find it too dark in color...you may change it by buying a new fuel filter and replace the old one.

Happy modding…
